"Here's the problem. You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do. There's no such thing as a chemical imbalance."
Tom Cruise to Matt Lauer on the Today Show, June 24, 2005. That's right Iceman, he IS dangerous. He also evidently (and secretly) gained the equivalent of an M.D. (necessary to practice psychiatry) or a Ph.D. (in case he is merely a medical historian).
"Ask the men and women who stood on top of the Trade Center. Ask them and they will tell you: Pass this amendment."
Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, R-Calif, in an insulting and nonsensical (yet widely ignored) statement made in support of a constitutional amendment banning destruction of the flag.
"But perhaps the most important difference between conservatives and liberals can be found in the area of national security. Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers."
No, not Ann Coulter -- Deputy White House Chief and Senior White House Advisor, Karl Rove, June 22, 2005, in a speech before the New York Conservative Party. Mr. Rove has not apologized (don't hold your breath), nor has he explained his basis for the statement (again, don't hold your breath).
"[H]e was talking about different philosophies -- the conservative philosophy and the liberal philosophy and how we're approaching different priorities for the American people. That's all it is."
Press Secretary Scott McClellan, June 23, 2005, commenting on the above statements by Karl Rove. There are several other instances where Mr. McClellan repeated some variation of the above statement, while never answering the question of whether it was accurate that liberals wanted to provide therapy for 9/11 terrorists, and how that became the liberal "philosphy." In fact, Mr. McClellan actually had the gall to criticize Democratic leaders for failing to defend this "philosophy." Essentially, Mr. McClellan is Ari Fleischer-lite (all of the bullshit, but less actual vitriol).
"I was most impressed with the resolve of all the leaders in the room. Their resolve is as strong as my resolve. "
Pres. Bush, July 7, 2005, referring to the other world leaders present at the G8 summit in Scotland (and their reaction to the bombings in London). I guess is really is all about him. Fortunately, condescending remarks pass for diplomatic compliments these days.
